About the waltz: The waltz has many variations but in general the waltz is one of the ballroom dance disciplines using 3/4 time where the partners stand facing each other. The man will place his right hand on his partners back and the left hand will be raised outward at the shoulder with the palm facing upwards and his partners hand will be in his. This is called the closed position and is the basic setup for the box step.

The box step is the foundation on which the waltz is built and is very easy to learn. The lead will step forward with his left foot, the right foot will slide up to the right corner of the box and the left foot will gilde over to meet it. Then you do this in reverse with the right foot sliding back and the left foot going back to the starting corner and the right foot gliding over to meet the left. This will form a box on the dance floor. When you can master this step and make it look graceful and elegant (it really isn’t very hard and the instructors in the Learn and Master Ballroom Dance DVD will show you how it’s done) you will be ready to move on to the box with underarm turn, the basic progressive, the turning boxes, and other waltz steps. As you learn to waltz you will be able to string all these moves together seamlessly and glide around the dance floor.

So what are you waiting for? If you want to learn to waltz order the Learn and Master Ballroom Dance DVDs today. Within a few hours you and your partner will be able to dance the waltz and be ready to move on to the other lessons.
